Cecilia Martinez

Assistant Director of the Leland Scholars Program

Cecilia was born and raised in Salinas, CA and is a proud daughter of Mexican immigrants. Cecilia’s passion for education stems from her own experience and challenges navigating higher education as a Latina, low-income, first-generation college student. She struggled with finding community at a predominantly white institution, and as a result, her focus has been supporting the success and retention of BIPOC, low-income, first-gen, and undocumented students. Cecilia graduated with her BA in Public Health from UC Berkeley and with her Ed.M in Higher Education from Harvard University. She worked as a college advisor for three years and most recently, as a program coordinator at Cal Poly, supporting students from low-income backgrounds. In her free time, Cecilia likes to drink lattes, go thrifting, watch rom coms, and reminisce about the early 2000s.
